Reflexology is well known as a relaxing, health improving therapy, but did you know that it has special benefits in pregnancy?
We have many years experience in treating women who wish to improve their general health, aid relaxation & maximize their chances of having a pregnancy free from complications.
Reflexology helps to relax muscles, including those of the pelvis & several women have reported that they felt their labour was improved by having reflexology treatments in the last trimester.
In fact several women have had treatment in the very late stages of pregnancy to help encourage the start of labour & avoid the need for induction by other methods.
It is essential that the therapist is well trained & experienced when treating pregnant women, as special considerations need to be made.
With a knowledgeable and well-guided hand, massage during pregnancy adds to the enjoyment of the birthing experience. Touch in its many forms brings solace relief of aches, pain and stiffness and gives emotional support and reassurance.
Pregnancy is often listed as a contra-indication to massage, but rarely with any justification. It is certainly important to consider treatment carefully, but correctly administered massage is not only potentially free of risk, but also extremely beneficial, comfortable and reassuring treatment during all stages of pregnancy.
Hydrotherm offers a unique potential for comfort and in a combination with a sound underpinning knowledge of the physiological changes of pregnancy.
We have many people ask us whether we can treat during pregnancy or how we can aid conception. Here are some treatment ideas that we know have benefited past customers throughout the pregnancy period. Of course, there are other treatments that could help, but these are our most popular and successful.
For more specific information on individual treatments, please contact us and we can put you in touch with the relevant practitioner.
Reflexology is a therapy which is very successful in treating the distressing symptoms of colic.
Most babies enjoy the treatment immensely & relax quickly. They often fall asleep!
A treatment involves gentle massage of the reflex points just beneath the surface of the skin on the feet, using the therapist’s thumbs and fingers.
The session lasts about 20-30 minutes & the parents can be taught a little about some gentle massage techniques to treat the baby between sessions.
Babies usually respond quickly to the treatment & often only need 3-4 treatments to gain relief from the colic.
