babybondBabybond provide a comprehensive range of scans including:

The Early Assessment Scan

You may have chosen to have an early scan to either confirm you are pregnant or to find out if you are still pregnant. Most of the time, the scan will be able to reassure you at the time it is carried out, that you have an on-going pregnancy and all is well. Occasionally, it is not easy to see clearly if your pregnancy is a viable one and more sadly, in a few pregnancies, the scan will show you that the baby has died and the pregnancy will not continue. Whatever happens, we will be there to plan your care and support in everyway we can.

The Dating Scan

This is not even offered by some NHS hospitals. It will tell you how many weeks pregnant you are and if you are having one or more babies. It will also tell you if your pregnancy is ongoing or not.

The Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan

Before taking this test (or any other you are offered or choose), you have to decide what you would do with the results. The NT scan is very thorough and specialized; combined with a simple blood test, it is designed to find out if your baby is at a higher risk of having Down’s syndrome. This test will not tell you if your baby actually has got Down’s but it will let you know if your baby’s risk, or chance, is high or low.

If the result is high, you may want to choose further tests that will confirm or deny this. They can be done by your hospital or we can arrange this for you privately.

We also offer pre-screen counselling so you can be sure that whatever you choose, it is the right decision for you and your family.

The Gender Scan

As the name suggests, it will tell you if your baby is a boy or girl. You may want this to share with your partner, your family or simply to do the all-important shopping. Some women find bonding with their baby easier if they know the sex. Some prefer the surprise on their birth day.

The Detailed Anatomy Scan

A Scan that looks at the fine details of your baby’s development; growth, anatomical check and sexing if requested. This is likely to be offered to you by your hospital. It is designed to reassure all is well with your baby, or pick up any problems.

The Presentation Scan

Will tell you which end of the baby is ‘presenting’ or coming first. The vast majority of babies are head-first. About 3% will be bottom down at the end of a pregnancy. Most breech babies will be found at an antenatal appointment with your Midwife, who will then offer to refer you as per your hospital guidelines. Occasionally, it’s not until labour starts that a bottom is found, but this is extremely rare. Knowing in advance will help you decide what your options are and what sort of birth to plan.

The Growth Scan

Is to confirm that your baby is growing as expected. It will also give you an estimated birth weight. Bear in mind that it is only an estimation and can vary by as much as 25%. Your baby’s growth will be monitored by your Midwife at your antenatal appointments and, if there are any concerns, s/he will discuss this with you.

The 4D Scan

If you’ve not seen them yet, go to the 4D Gallery and see what these scans are all about. The latest technology allows moving, 3D pictures of your little one to be downloaded onto a DVD for you to keep. Share it with your family and friends or keep the moment close to you. Some of our customers have shown the DVD to their now older children, so they can see what it was like for them when they were in ‘Mummy’s tummy’. Some would argue that these scans are intrusive and unnecessary and that’s fine by us. Some research shows us that women who have had a 4D Scan report feeling ‘closer’ to their baby, making the baby more ‘real’. One of the surprising advantages of this is that it helped some women take much better care of themselves with very positive outcomes. Occasionally, it may feel very strange to see your baby in such a way and you may not want to continue with the scan, just ask the Sonographer to stop. You may want it to go on forever! But we don’t prolong the scan time any more than is absolutely necessary. As usual the choice is entirely yours.

Bad News

All of the scans we perform are done with care and attention with you and your family. We strive to give you as accurate information as we can. There may be constraints, such as the way the baby is positioned, that prevents the Sonographer from getting accurate details. Occasionally, some details are missed and sometimes there may be something seen that may turn out to be of no importance at all.

Very rarely, there may be a problem that is totally unexpected and we are the bearers of bad news. Never easy to hear, we will ensure you have the time, support and a plan of care arranged. We will continue our course of support for as long as you need us.

Your scanning options

Any scans during pregnancy are optional, even the ones given to you by your local hospital or clinic. It is always your choice. The protocols used by Babybond for its ultrasound scans have been chosen as they’re shown to be causing no harm to either mother or baby. However, the study of ultrasound safety continues to be reviewed and we monitor this issue very closely.

Babybond believe parents should decide what they want from their pregnancy scan. We offer easy access to audited, professionally operated private ultrasound services without any "post-code lottery" or crowded scanning lists; you choose your appointment time, you choose any combination of scans you want for your pregnancy at any of our locations in your community and you choose who comes with you to your scan - providing we can fit them all into the room

Important information:

All pregnancy scans, including ours, are optional. If you are in any doubt about having any type of pregnancy scan you should consult your own GP or Midwife. For our Early Assessment, Dating, NT, Detailed Anatomy & Growth scans, we take your healthcare professional’s contact details at the time of your booking.

Our scans are designed to complement, not replace, any regular NHS antenatal scans and under no circumstances should they be seen as a substitute for advice from your own NHS healthcare professional adviser or any other scan offered to you by your NHS hospital or General Practitioner during your antenatal process, unless your antenatal scan is being carried out by us as a result of a direct referral by your GP and as such is a private scan to be treated as the equivalent of your regular NHS scan.

Babybond is the UK’s first ISO Quality Endorsed ultrasound provider. Since 1998, we have been nurturing the parent-to-baby-bond more times than anyone else. At every scan, a unique and unrivalled combination of professional standards and ultrasound experience.
